    1. John says:

Most all alloys are homogeneous mixtures of elements. Stainless steel, as you question states, is a mixture of iron, chromium and nickel. Brass is a mixture of copper and zinc. Jewelers gold is also a mixture of other elements – often gold, silver, copper, and sometimes zinc and platinum. Jewelry rated as 24K is pure gold (24/24 gold), 18K gold is 18/24 gold (75%), 12K is 12/24 (50%).
